QUAIL - ITALIAN LAYING
Approximate size - 5 - 6 inches
Incubation length - 17 days
Main characteristics:-
* Easily sexed from 8 - 10 weeks old
* Male - chestnut head and very little flecking on back
* Female - brown mask with heavy flecking on back
* These quail are relatively quiet - they don't have a loud offensive call
* Excellent egg layers
* Can be kept in colonies although as with all quail, the males can be extremely aggressive. Ratio 1 male - 2 or 3 hens minimum
* In danger of being extremely in-bred as all Italian Laying quail in this country originally came from a few dozen imported eggs
