JAVA SPARROWS BEGALESE FINCHES RED FRONTED KAKARIKI COCKATIEL AFRICAN GREYS Diamond doves are very peaceful and don't like to be disturbed when they are nesting. The males can be easily sexed in the breeding season by the eyering. The male displays to the female by fanning out his tail and cooing. Diamond doves lay two eggs - the female will sit on the eggs more often than the male. They eat millet and canary seed. Barbary doves are also known as Ring-Necked Doves. They are very docile birds and tame easily. The doves will quite often land on my shoulder or my head when I go into the flight to feed them. They lay two eggs in nest pans, feeed troughs - wherever they want! Both parents take it in turns to sit on the eggs. Baby doves are called "squabs". Barbary doves eat millet and corn. They lay 4 - 6 eggs. Sexing the java sparrows is possible when they are in full breeding condition - the male sings and bobs up and down on the perch displaying to the female. Also, the males have stronger and thicker bills than the females and quite often have a much deeper eye ring and the female has a pale eye ring. Bengalese are a domesticated finch. They are available in a variety of colours. They can be sexed when the males display. The only time you know for certain you have a female is when she lays an egg! Red Fronted Kakariki are very funny birds. They will often climb up and down the wire of their cage or aviary and sometimes run upside down on the roof. They prefer to be bred in pairs. Kakariki tame easily and make excellent pets. Cockatiels can be quite noisy. They can make excellent pets and can talk and whistle! Cockatiels can have from 4 - 7 chicks in a clutch. They eat millet and sunflower. African Greys should only be kept by experienced breeders. They are best kept in pairs with a nest box available at all times. They eat parrot mix, fresh fruit and vegetables. African Greys don't always raise their chicks so you need to keep an eye on them when they're about one week old to check they are being fed - if they aren't, you will have to hand rear them yourself. African Greys can live until they're about 70 years old. This is my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Poppy. She is now 18 months old. She is a tri-colour. She is a very friendly dog and enjoys playing in the snow! |
